A quick view behind the scenes

Steven Skoczen wrote this Jan. 14, 2009 for SixLinks Developers .
So Jeff and I just had our weekly meeting, this one laying out what made the cut for Wasabi (Feb 1), and what was pushed to Sage (Mar 1).

Some of these are tough calls, but we're commited to hitting our release with the features we promise, and continuing development on the business side. It's something there's not a lot of yet on the site, but as you may or may not know, our goal is for Jeff and I (at least) to make a living running this site.

So, as it develops the next few months, you'll see more stuff about sponsors, possibly some trials of ads in certain places, and all of that. There'll also be lots of spaces for you to help us with ideas to make SixLinks more sustainable.

As for Wasabi, here's some things I can promise you'll see:

  • A sponsorship packet

  • Reworked fix flags ("I need help with ______")

  • Reporting of offensive content / site abuse

  • A little taste of the spiffy eye-candy that's coming, probably in the comments section

  • Much improved big-picture content (we're counting on you all to help out on this!)

  • Redone pages for starting fixes and guides, to clarify what they are, and how they work

  • Search.

  • Lots of nice little things like revisions to guide ratings, IE support (that one's not little, or nice) , deleting, and fixes for many of those 120+ bugs you all have posted.

So there's a taste. Jeff and I have been pretty quiet on the posting, and hopefully we'll be able to pick the pace back up - mostly we've just been listening to your feedback, sifting and sorting ideas, and putting those ideas into our plan.

If you've got any other questions about what we're doing, the site plan, or any of that, feel free to drop in a comment!
