Where we are

Currently there are hungry, thirsty people with no access to sustainable income sources. These people don't care about anything that is on this website, they care about keeping themselves alive. Fortunately, there are a large number of institutions that are already working on these problems, some with more success than others. For example, there are thousands of microfinance institutions trying to get banking systems to the poor of the world. They have succeeded in reaching about a billion people, but still have a long way to go. The map to the right shows the percent of the population of each country that is undernourished. As you can see, there is still quite a bit of work to do here.

While there are many groups working on trying to improve these statistics, there are many in the world not making life any easier for them, usually without realizing the impact they are having. Those who are secure in their basic needs are often making decisions that make it more difficult for others to meet their basic needs. Despite having an already high supply of basic necessities from food to water to banks, those with them are demanding more, and getting them. The impacts of affluent lifestyles are also impacting those without basics disproportionately. Things like pollution and climate change tend to be caused mostly by those who have their basic needs met and tend to most affect those struggling to get by.
