Carbon cap.. ish.

Steven Skoczen wrote this May 15, 2009.
So we here in the US are finally about to get a Carbon Cap. Sort of. The sort of's because the House of Representatives has caved to lobbyists, and pulled the actual meat of the bill out.

The essence is that we're giving away 85% of the carbon permits. This means that instead of making money on the permits at auction, and then giving that money to low and middle-income folks who are going to be affected by higher energy prices, we're getting zero money, and we'll all get to pay more. We also won't cut our carbon production, because the permits don't have any value. Hooray! Jeff's got a full analysis over on his blog.

So, it's time to test Democracy in action again. Write, call, or otherwise harass your representatives!
