Where we need to be

We fully support movements to drive less, in fact there is an entire section on this website dedicated to it, but we also recognize the fact that not everyone is going to be able to give up their car. So we need to be at a place in the future, where you are able to drive to the lumber yard, visit a friend out of town, or take a trip cross country in your own vehicle without producing huge amounts of greenhouse gases.

We will need to see more plug-in hybrids and eventually full electric vehicles

In the future, the vast majority of our personal vehicles will need to run on at least some electricity. For those who absolutely need to run big diesel trucks, check out the Biodiesel section. Ideally, though, we will need to see more plug-in hybrids and eventually full electric vehicles. These vehicles should pull their electricity from clean energy sources such as wind and solar energy. This will result in a very low cost in terms of emissions per mile driven. Eventually, once the clean energy sources have been paid back in terms of the emissions used to create them, the emissions from our vehicles will be near zero and the highest energy costs of a vehicle will be the production of the vehicle rather than it's operations.

This will need to happen in conjunction with better battery technology, better recharging systems, and cleaner energy, which you can learn more about in the Better Batteries, Charging Stations, and Making Energy sections, respectively.
