Where we need to be
The best thing we can do to care for natural spaces is to protect
Natural Spaces,
Plants, and
Animals, but if we can't do that, we need to clean up after ourselves and repair damage we cause. We have to find ways of fixing the problems we have caused without creating additional problems in the process.
We have to do as little to disrupt natural food webs

We need to have more successful reintroductions of wildlife like this Andean Condor that has been released in Peru.

We rely on the Earth for a lot of things, so we need to be at a place where we are using those resources in a way that does not make it more difficult for us to continue to use them in the future. This means preventing the release of toxic compounds into the soil and water and finding ways to clean up after these messes when they do happen. It also means only using plant life in a sustainable way and replanting and recreating habitats that we have destroyed. Finally we have to do as little to disrupt natural food webs by maintaining a status quo of animal life and restoring animals to their natural habitats.
The biggest issue is that we need to be at a place where we are sustainably using natural resources and having as little of an impact on the natural world. We need to act more like just another species and less like we have been, where the world is ours for the taking, as much and as quickly as we want. And we need to make sure that we are doing everything we can to undo the damage that that mindset has done in the previous decades.
