Guide: Follow an endangered species
Although this may seem like a bit of a strange guide to include in our core features, we feel it is very important. One of the best ways you can help out nature is to get interested and get involved. Making a personal connection with a plant or animal that is endangered will make you much more likely to try to do things to help prevent it from going extinct.
Steps:
1 Explore Endangered Species lists
We recommend checking out the IUCN Photo Gallery or Wikipedia's List of Critically Endangered Species. Click around these websites to try to find an animal that sounds particularly interesting or cool.
2 Learn about your animal
What is it? Where does it live? What does it eat? What are some cool facts about it?
3 Learn about its state
Why is it endangered? Who is trying to protect it? What are they doing?
4 Learn if there's anything you can do
Can you support groups trying to protect it? What can you do in your daily life to limit the factors causing the animal to be endangered? If nothing else, you can at least bring it up in conversation and talk to people and get them interested in what you're following.
5 Check up on it
Check back every once in a while to see how it's doing. Perhaps sign up on a newsletter of a group trying to protect the animal. Continue to look at ways you can change your behaviors to help this animal out.
