We need to be protecting more spaces of all sorts, and one of the most effective ways of doing that is to make sure that happens is to have everyone in a place where more areas are being protected each year.
Steps:
1
Figure out how many protected spaces your state currently has
Use government park service websites to find out how many protected spaces your state or province has. You can also see if someone has mentioned it in our discussion pages.
2
Find out if any new spaces are being planned for the next year
Use the same resources. If you can't figure it out from that, contact someone in your state's park service.
3
If not, try to get a space protected
If there are more being planned, go ahead and move on to step 4. If there aren't, work to get some planned. First off, find out why there aren't any being planned. Next, contact friends, family, colleagues, and local politicians to try to get something done.
4
Follow up
See if this space actually did get protected. And be sure to repeat this process every year. This one you may not be able to check off for a little while. Once the first new protected space opens since you've started this guide, you can check it off, but you should still keep up on this information.
